Welcome to Reception!
Welcome to our Reception Class page, where we will keep you up to date with the children's learning and share important information, events and photographs with you. We aim to provide a wonderful learning environment for the children in the Early Years Foundation Stage that is full of nurture, fun and engagement.
Our Topic/Book this half term is ‘Animals, Minibeasts and the text of 'I'm Going to eat this ANT'.
During November, the children will be learning through our new Pathways text 'I am going to eat this ANT' and they will complete a variety of reading and writing activities based on the text.. The chioldren will also be learning about a variety of animals and Minibeasts and different facts about these creatures as well as how to care for them. . The role play area will be kept as a home corner or house but the children can enjoy an additional role play area of a 'Minibeast Cafe'. The children will be able to extend their learning from the story and act out the story and well as act out a narrative in the cafe.
The teaching and learning of Mathematics is supported by a whole school scheme called Power Maths. This scheme has a mastery approach and supports the children to count, order and recognise numbers in line with the revised Early Years Curriculum 2021. Reception daily Inputs will be delivered using NCETM inputs supported by Power Maths.
The Way, the Truth and the Life ‘God's Family’
The RE scheme we follow at St Luke's Catholic Primary School is ‘The Way, The Truth and The Life’, which is taught in every class. This half term we will be beginning with the topic of 'God's World' during our RE lessons and collective worship time.
PE will continue to be taught on a Friday morning this half term. On the morning of your child's PE day please send your child into school wearing their PE kit. Long hair will need to be tied back and earrings taken out or covered with plasters.
Reading Books will be changed on a Monday and a Thursday. Please send your child into school with their reading book in their book bag everyday. More information will follow regarding reading logs etc.
Every child in Reception has their own online learning journey. Observations can be viewed once you have access to the 'Parent Portal'. A few weeks after your child has started school Miss Ledsham will create an account for you to gain access to 'Learning Book' and then you will be sent an email to create your own password. Once you have done this you will be able to view your child's learning journey and add your own comments and observations at home.
Below are some websites you might find useful to explore with your child as and when you please. Please don't feel the need that they have to all be done in one go. If you explore and complete any of the activities below please feel free to upload any pictures and observations to Learning Book.
If you wish to have a conversation about your child, this can be arranged by Miss Ledsham. We are always available to talk about your child, their learning, progress and well-being. We look forward to getting to know you and your child as they begin their first year in school.
If you have any worries or concerns about your child please do not hesitate to contact the school office to arrange a telephone conversation with Miss Ledsham.
