Welcome to Class 2

We are beginning  our time in Class 2. We are  looking forward to an exciting year ahead with lots of creative, stimulating activites and visits to enrich our  learning.

 

Our Learning

Creative

This half term our topic is "Fire! Fire!". We are lerarning about  the Great Fire of London. We will be understanding  the ways we can learn about the past, explain why some historical sources tell us about the past and develop some understanding of chronology through timelines. We will discover now the diaries of Samuel Pepys was an  historical source, recording the events of the Great Fire of London.

We will be learning about recounts in our English work and we will produce a recount of the Great Fire of London.

Maths

In Maths we are focusing on Addition and Subtraction. We will be using different representations to explain our adding and subtracting including numberlines and bar models. We will be applying our addition and subtraction skills inword problems and explaining our  reasoning.We will be working on learning the 2 times table to be fluent in knowing both multiplication and division facts.

The Way, the Truth and the Life

Our Way Truth and Life topic is "Mysteries".  We will have the opportunity to ask and respond to questions tahat are mysteries of our faith. They will have the opportunity to know there are three persons in one God and that we can think of God in different ways- Father,Son and Holy Spirit. for choosing them by helping others. They will learn that Jesus is God's gift to the world. 

 

P.E.

The children have PE every Tuesday afternoon. Please ensure that your child has their kit in school and that it is clearly labelled.

Homework

Every Monday, spelling books will be sent home with words that your child will be learning that week in phonics. Please encourage your child to practice these words and apply them in their writing.

Reading books will be changed when the child is ready for the next book.,  however, please ensure that your child has their book in school every day. Please hear and read to your child  every day, encourage them to discuss the story  and characters  in the book.

Homework will be sent home every Thursday and will alternate between Maths and English. This should be brought back into school the following Monday.
