Welcome to Class 2

We are beginning  our time in Class 2. We are  looking forward to an exciting year ahead with lots of creative, stimulating activites and visits to enrich our  learning.

Our Learning

This Spring term our topic is "Explore". We are investigating the basic needs of  animals  for their survival. We will be looking at a range of animals from meerkats to penguins.  We will  explore their habitats and where they live in the world. Class 2 will be using maps and globes to locate the continents and oceans of the world.  In English, as part of The Primary Writing Project, we are studying "Meerkat Mail as our text.We will write letters and postcards as Sunny as he travels around the world. We will study  animal poetry inspired by our trip to Chester Zoo. We will be looking at non-chronological reports and writing our own reports about animals.

In Maths we are focusing on multiplication and division. We will be using repeated addition and arrays to understand multiplication. We will use concrete apparatus to learn and understand division, allowing us to write multiplication and division sentences.  We will be applying our multiplication and division skills in word problems and explaining our  reasoning. We will be working on learning the 2, 5 and 10 times table to be fluent in knowing both multiplication and division facts.

The Way, the Truth and the Life

Our Way Truth and Life topic is "Good News".  We will have the opportunity to know that Jesus can turn sadness into joy. We will study  the stories "Jarius Daughter"and "The Ten Lepers".  We will have the opportunity to know that we should always remember to thank Jesus for his help.

The children have PE every Tuesday afternoon. Please ensure that your child has their kit in school and that it is clearly labelled.

Every Monday, spelling books will be sent home with words that your child will be learning that week in phonics. Please encourage your child to practice these words and apply them in their writing.

Reading books will be changed when the child is ready for the next book.,  however, please ensure that your child has their book in school every day. Please hear and read to your child  every day, encourage them to discuss the story  and characters  in the book.

Homework will be sent home every Thursday and will alternate between Maths and English. This should be brought back into school the following Monday.
